Making things work, Tuscan Style

When we moved back to Utah after more than a decade abroad, we bought this home without ever having seen it in person. I knew from the pictures online that there was A LOT of slate throughout the house and that the walls were f aux painted, old world style. I worried whether I could live with so much slate but Dave assured me we could rip it out if it was too much.

Once we got there we realized that to rip it all out would be more than a major undertaking. We opted to live with it for the foreseeable future. I was able to use a lot of the decor items I had from previous homes and made it all work in the home. While not my preferred interior, it really was a beautiful place in the end.

I did change the paint in all of the bedrooms and was able to use a lot of the furniture and decor I had used in our St. George house to decorate.

I painted and added a tile wainscot to the dining room and used a dining table we already had. I re purposed an antique cabinet by having cut down so it wasn't quite as deep and added shelves so it could be used for dish storage. I used my antique apothecary cabinet as a buffet. Dave and I designed and installed built in book shelves in the office. We made our best attempt to have them match the desk we had custom built for the home we had in St. George so that we could use it as well.
